Welcome from theHead of Sixth Form
The Holy Cross Sixth Form is a dynamic and vibrant place to study at post 16, within an inclusive and supportive Catholic community. Over the two years with us, we aim to develop our young people into confident, articulate and independent young adults with the leadership skills and work ethic to thrive in higher education and employment.
For over 30 successful years we have worked in partnership with Richard Challoner School offering an extensive, varied and exciting programme of study and providing a curriculum which can be tailored to the individual student’s need. Selecting the right combination of the many courses available is vital to achieving academic success and gaining qualifications which will open doors to future pathways.
Together with academic success, a combination of high quality teaching and positive staff-student relationships lies at the core of our provision and this is complemented by a pastoral programme which supports the students’ personal, social and emotional development. A dedicated and experienced University and Careers Advisor is available to assist and support students in their choices for higher education and career programmes. Working closely with tutors, each student receives 1-1 guidance with their university or employment applications.
The Sixth Form regard themselves as role models for students in the rest of the school and the academic and life skills that they develop at this age will build a real foundation for their success in the future.
We look forward to welcoming you at our annual Sixth Form Open Evening held in the Autumn Term or you may wish to make an appointment to come and visit us on a normal school day.

“Studying at Holy Cross really helped my confidence, especially with pursuing STEM subjects past GCSE. The teachers encourage an environment that allows you to make mistakes and learn from them without feeling ashamed - an aspect that’s really vital to learning. Because of the culture at Holy Cross, the students here are very supportive of each other, all willing to help - the definition of “girls support girls”. I have really enjoyed my time at Holy Cross and I’m not sure I would have pursued a Degree Apprenticeship in Software Engineering without the encouragement of staff and students. It really is the support of teachers that give you confidence to apply for Russell Group Universities and equally to choose other “unconventional” routes after Sixth Form. I’m grateful to have found those teachers in Holy Cross.”

“My experience at The Holy Cross School has been one of great adventures and valuable life lessons. Since Year 7, I’ve learned how to flourish as an individual and develop important soft skills like teamwork and communication. The school’s embracing community provides a supportive system where students, including myself, find comfort and belonging. From the moment you step into the school, a familiar warmth welcomes you into the sisterhood that sets The Holy Cross apart. I particularly enjoyed attending the Korean club in Year 9, where I explored Korean culture and made lasting connections with other students. These opportunities made my time here truly special.
The Holy Cross School focuses not only on building a strong community but also on nurturing individual growth. From competitions and leadership roles to exciting trips like the adventurous camping trip I took in Year 10, I’ve been encouraged to pursue my ambitions and try new things. As a Year 12 student, the school’s support in preparing for my future has been invaluable, especially with work experience, guest speakers, and guidance from our careers advisor. Thanks to The Holy Cross, I feel equipped to achieve my goals, with memories and lessons that will last a lifetime.”

"I’m currently in Year 13, and I have the honour of being Head Girl. During my time at Holy Cross, I’ve been taught by some of the most amazing teachers, made some of the greatest friends, and created truly special memories. Our school stands out because of its incredibly supportive environment, with teachers who always want the best for you, and where it genuinely feels like we are all in this together. I’ve had the opportunity to grow academically, especially in subjects like Maths and History, which I have always loved and chosen for my A-levels. Last year, I had the chance to visit Berlin with the school, which helped deepen my knowledge and understanding of my History course. I was also lucky enough to go on the Kenya trip, a truly life-changing experience where I learned, grew as a person, and formed closer connections with friends. Those experiences and memories will stay with me forever.
Throughout my years at Holy Cross, I’ve grown as a person. The school’s emphasis on character development, along with the many leadership opportunities offered, has helped me become more confident and responsible. I’m especially grateful for the school’s strong sense of community, where positivity and inclusivity are a priority. Being part of a Catholic school has also instilled a sense of faith and community, encouraging values such as compassion and respect for others. As I prepare for university, I feel fully equipped for the challenges ahead, thanks to the well-rounded education I’ve received here, as well as the life lessons and skills I’ve been taught. I highly recommend Holy Cross to anyone looking for a nurturing, inclusive, and academically strong school. I am incredibly grateful and proud to be a Holy Cross Girl."

"My time at Holy Cross has been one filled with joy and adventure. The teachers are always going the extra mile to ensure that I am not only going to achieve well in my exams, but also that I am prepared and ready for life beyond the red doors. The support and opportunities I have been offered post GCSE have been phenomenal, and have allowed me to become who I am today, gaining leadership skills through my role in the head girl team and as a mentor to younger students. I have truly been able to feel like I am a part of the Holy Cross community and thanks to my time here I have most definitely made friends for life.
Throughout my time in sixth form I have been lucky enough to experience so many wonderful opportunities including my trip to Kenya, Berlin, New York and much more. Having the chance to see the world first hand and learn through experience has allowed me to make memories for life. Most of all, working with young children in primary schools in Kenya has really helped me to make the decision to pursue paediatric nursing at university. I will always remember all my wonderful teachers and friends that have supported my every decision since year 7. I would truly recommend the Holy Cross sixth form to anyone who wants to feel a sense of belonging in a small down to earth sixth form where each person receives the pastoral care they need."
