House Activities
At Holy Cross, students are part of both horizontal year groups and vertical House, a system launched in 2017 following extensive student consultation. Each House is named by students and linked to Catholic Social Teaching and Gospel values. When students join Holy Cross, they are assigned to a House, giving them opportunities for friendly competition, building relationships across year groups, and participating in projects and charity initiatives. Each House has its own colour and is named after a Christian value chosen by the students.
House Activities are a fantastic way for students to develop skills, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging, all while earning points for their House. From music and performance to sports and community events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy:
Christmas Hits
A highlight of the year! Each tutor group performs a Christmas song, often with dancing, costumes, and sometimes even gymnastics, bringing festive cheer and creativity to the school.
Music Festival
Students can showcase their musical talent with a solo or group performance to their year group, celebrating artistic expression and confidence.
Speak Up Challenge
A chance to have your voice heard! Students discuss issues important to their tutor group, develop oracy skills, and learn the value of listening to others.
Sports Day
A day full of fun, competition, and team spirit, where Houses come together to celebrate sporting talent and make memories that last.
Summer Fair
A whole-school event on the field where each tutor group runs a themed stall. From circuses to superheroes, staff and students join in the fun, raising money, having a blast with friends, and earning house points along the way.
Winners Party
At the end of the year, the House with the most points enjoys a celebratory afternoon of food, dancing, and fun, complete with the House’s signature colour balloons!
House Activities at Holy Cross go beyond competition, bringing connection, creativity, and lasting memories to school life.
