Through the PSHE programme, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and prepare for life and work in modern Britain.

Citizenship education is delivered within the PSHE programme and gives pupils the knowledge and skills to understand, challenge and engage with democratic society, including politics, the media, civil society, the economy and the law. It promotes fundamental British values

The subject aims to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking. The subject is taught one lesson a week to all key stages.

The subject is delivered by the form tutors either to their own tutor group or across the year group on a carousel. We use expert speakers, regularly using both the police and nursing services to deliver sessions on sensitive issues.

At Key Stages 3 & 4 this consists of Economic Well-being and Financial Responsibility, Citizenship and Personal Wellbeing, including the latest statutory guidance on health education, relationships education and relationships and sex education (RSE).

In addition, in Year 7 students study the ‘Snap Back’ Programme to aid with the transition from primary to secondary school.

Careers Education is provided through the subject in modules from Year 8 onwards, in addition to the personalised Careers advice provided by the Careers Adviser. Careers Education modules for Year 7 will be provided starting in the Spring of 2022.
