BTEC Science – Applied Science: Level 3 Extended Certificate
What will I Study?
This BTEC Level 3 course is equivalent in size to one A Level and carries the equivalent UCAS points. The course covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the vocational sector.
Year 12 and 13
The BTEC extended certificate covers 4 units over 2 years:
- Principles and Applications of Science
- Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
- Science Investigation Skill
- One optional unit
How will I be assessed?
The course consists of one exam (25%), one externally assessed practical task (33%), and 2 internally assessed coursework units (42%).
What do I need to study the course?
GCSE Grade 4:4 or above in Combined Science or GCSE Grade 4 or above in at least two GCSE Sciences (Biology, Chemistry or Physics).
GCSE Grade 4 or above in Mathematics.
Where will a BTEC qualification in Applied Science lead me?
Students who have studied Applied Science at The Holy Cross Sixth Form have gone on to study Midwifery, Nursing, Teaching and Nursery Nursing. Science graduates are in demand and highly valued, scientists work in industry, the NHS, government establishments, and research and educational institutions. There are jobs in research and development, and science knowledge can be useful in marketing and sales in science-based companies.
