A Level Media Studies
What will I study?
A Level Media Studies will enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the media and its role in our daily lives. You will study how media texts are constructed and how audiences and users respond to and interpret them. You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of the relationship between media texts, their audiences and the industries which produce and distribute them.
Year 12 and 13
- A range of media texts will be covered on the course, including advertisements, DVD covers, CD covers, newspaper front pages, magazines, film extracts, television sequences, music videos, websites and computer game extracts.
- As part of your coursework you will also have an opportunity to create media products such as film extracts and magazine pages.
How will I be assessed?
Written exam (70%) and Production Coursework (30%)

What do I need to study the course?
GCSE Grade 5 or above in English Language and English Literature.
Where will A Level Media Studies lead me?
Students who have taken Media Studies at Holy Cross Sixth Form have gone on to degrees in Screen Media and Media Arts, Film and TV, Multimedia Journalism, Marketing Management, Media, Culture and Journalism and Events Management. The media industry is very broad covering journalism, interactive media, film and TV. There are opportunities in advertising, marketing, public relations and many areas of business.
