A Level Environmental Science

What will I study?
Students who enjoy a multi-disciplinary approach to learning and have a keen interest in the sustainability of our planet will find this new specification engaging and thought provoking.

Key popular topics include the biophysical environment, energy resources, pollution, circular economy and sustainability. With opportunities to include real life case studies in learning, this contemporary qualification has never been more relevant.

Students will be learning about the living environment, the physical environment, energy resources, pollution, biological resources, sustainability and research methods.

How will I be assessed?
This course is assessed by means of two 3 hour exams. The questions include a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.

What do I need to study the course?
Grade 5:5 or above in Combined Science or GCSE Biology. Grade 5 or above in Maths and English. To feel confident, students should have sat the Higher Paper in Mathematics as well as in Combined Science/GCSE Biology.

Where will A Level Environmental Science lead me?
Students who have studied Environmental Science at Holy Cross Sixth Form have gone on to study degrees in Environmental Science that can lead to a wide range of career pathways. It is especially well suited to students interested in the Environmental, Conservational and Horticulturist sectors, and those with a passion for Sustainability. This subject would equip students well for further study at university, and could lead to potential careers including Environmental Engineer, Sustainability Consultant, Toxicologist and Commercial Horticulturist.
