What will I study?
English Literature is a varied, highly rewarding subject which encourages students to become independent, critical thinkers. In particular, this course aims to foster a love of literature across genres and time periods, which provides an excellent foundation for the knowledge and skills required for further study at degree level.

The modules of study are:

• Drama and Poetry pre-1900: potential poets and playwrights who may be studied include Christina Rossetti, Geoffrey Chaucer, Henrik Ibsen and William Shakespeare.
• Comparative and Contextual Study: the core texts in this module are The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck. Students will also explore a wide range of texts and extracts from the period of American Literature 1880-1940.
• Independent Study: Students will produce a coursework folder of 3,000 words

What do I need to study the course?
GCSE Grade 6 or above in English Language and Literature.

How will I be assessed?
Two terminal examinations (80% of final A Level grade) and one Independent Study (20% of final grade). This will be internally assessed and externally moderated.

Where will A Level English Literature lead me?
​As a facilitating subject, English Literature offers an exciting platform for students to access a plethora of degree subjects such as: English Literature, History, Classics,Theology and Law. This subject provides students with strong analytical skills as well as a profound awareness of the significance of different contexts and perspectives.

Possible future careers might include: Marketing, Human Resources, Publishing and Editing, Advertising, Teaching, Journalism, Copy Writing and Law.
