The Holy Cross School welcomes a survivor from the Holocaust Educational Trust

29/6/2018

On Thursday this week, Year 9 students heard testimony from Holocaust survivor, Hannah Lewis MBE, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET). The testimony was followed by a question and answer session to enable students to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth.

Helen Kay, Head of History, said:
“It was a privilege for us to welcome Hannah Lewis to our school and her testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced. We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for co-ordinating the visit and we hope that by hearing Hannah’s testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.”

Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust added:
“The Holocaust Educational Trust educates and engages students from across the UK, from all communities about the Holocaust and there can be no better way than through the first-hand testimony of a survivor. Hannah’s story is one of tremendous courage during horrific circumstances and by hearing her testimony, students will have the opportunity to learn where prejudice and racism can ultimately lead.
“At the Trust, we impart the history of the Holocaust to young people, to ensure that we honour the memory of those whose lives were lost and take forward the lessons taught by those who survived.”

The Holy Cross School Choir (Years 7-10) performed 'Bless our show' from Sister Act and a Mamma Mia medley, as well as joint singing with all the other choirs in the 2nd Festival of School Choirs event at the Rose Theatre, Kingston on Tuesday this week. One of our Year 7 students also had the opportunity to sing a solo in 'One Day More' from Les Mis.
It was a fantastic event and they were absolutely brilliant - many thanks to Kingston Music Service for organising this event.

The team attended the Regional 'A' Final of the English Schools Track and Field Cup on Monday, coming in 7th out of 13 of the best schools in the South East of England. This region is well known for being one of the toughest in the country, so to even make the 'A' final is a fantastic achievement - well done!
